Glitching Display

What this usually means
A display that flickers, glitches, cuts in/out, or behaves inconsistently is often caused by the display connector not being fully seated, or wiring tension/pinching that interrupts the connection when the bars move

Note: If your display is cutting out when pressing the horn button, utilizing a Ferrite Ring Core around the horn button wire will resolve.

Step 1: Access and re-seat the display connector

  1. Remove the top plate to access the display connector.

  2. Locate the display connector.

  3. Unplug it and plug it back in firmly, ensuring it is fully seated and not slightly loose from vibration.

Note: A fully seated connector often restores a stable display immediately. This is what a clean, correctly pinned display connector should look like:

Resolution: A fully seated connector often restores a stable display immediately.

Step 2: Make sure nothing is pressing or pinching the display

  1. Turn the handlebars fully left, then fully right.

  2. Watch the display and wiring while turning.

Confirm:

  • The display is not being pressed by the bars

  • No wiring is getting pinched or pulled tight when turning

Resolution: If anything is binding, reposition the wiring so it has slack throughout the full steering range.

Step 3: Inspect the connector pins for alignment

  1. With the connector accessible, inspect the pins.

  2. Make sure the pins look straight and aligned, so they make solid contact when plugged in.

Resolution: Misaligned pins can cause intermittent contact, leading to glitching or display resets.

Step 4: Perform a “wiggle test” for intermittent connection

  1. With the bike powered on, gently wiggle the display connector wires near the plug.

  2. Watch to see if the display behavior changes (restores, cuts out, glitches less/more).

What this tells you:
If wiggling restores the display, the issue is very likely a connection that’s loose, strained, or not making consistent contact.

Phone Disconnecting From the Display

What this usually means

Most phone disconnect/freezing issues are related to the phone, not the display—commonly:

  • Your smartphone may need an update

  • Bluetooth conflicts from too many connected devices

  • A phone reboot is needed (especially after updates)

Step-by-step fixes

Step 1: Try a different phone (quick isolation test)

  1. Pair a different phone to the display.

  2. Test for stability.

Outcome:

  • If the second phone works normally, the issue is likely your original phone’s software/settings.

  • If both phones disconnect, you may be dealing with a pairing/device-conflict issue.

Step 2: Update your phone and apps

  1. Update your phone’s operating system.

  2. Re connect to the RCR 80v Display

Note: Even after updates, occasional freezing can still happen, but updates commonly improve stability.

Step 3: Remove Bluetooth conflicts (most common fix)

You cannot have multiple external audio/Bluetooth devices connected while paired to the display.

  1. Unpair/disconnect all Bluetooth devices from your phone.

  2. Toggle Bluetooth OFF, then ON again

  3. Pair your phone to the display first.

  4. Then pair one single external audio/Bluetooth device (if needed).

  5. Do not add more devices—too many connections can confuse the system and cause disconnects.

Step 4: Power-cycle your phone (especially after updates)

  1. Turn your phone off completely.

  2. Leave it off for 10+ seconds.

  3. Turn it back on and reconnect.

This can help clear connection issues, especially immediately after an update.
