This guide explains who needs a controller update, why it’s required, and how to complete the update step by step.
Important Notes (Read First)
Controller updates are only required for Batch 1 & Batch 2 orders
Shipped between September 28th and November 11th
All bikes shipped in December are already updated from the factory
This update fine-tunes thermal warning behavior, allowing the bike to engage thermal protection later and increase ride time at high speeds
The update must be completed using an Android device
There are no plans to release an iOS app
What You’ll Need
An Android phone or tablet
The controller app .apk file
The latest RCR 80V controller firmware file
Your RCR 80V powered on and nearby
Important:
The firmware file must be uploaded exactly as named.
Renaming the file can cause update errors.

Steps:
Download both the .apk file and firmware update file
Open the .apk file, turn on your bike
Tap "Scan" to scan for devices (ensure no other 80v bikes are turned on around you)
Look for the device that starts with "FAVO" and select it.
i. Note that some bikes will start with "DUNEN" instead of FAVO.
Tap "Connect" and then tap "Start"
Once it finishes initializing and says "OK" hit the "Close" button
Select the Settings Cog at the very top
Select the file location under where it says "Firmware File," then locate your updated firmware file in your downloads or recent folder and select it.
Hit "Program" and then confirm
Wait for firmware install to finish, then hit "Close" and restart your bike.
When your controller is finished updating, you should see this screen when reconnecting to the bike:
Known Issues:
My bike display is showing "N" after updating:
This indicates the display is powered on but not receiving data. N mode can happen if the firmware update fails to flash completely, often due to a weak Bluetooth connection caused by the bike’s metal side panels interfering with signal strength.
When reconnecting, make sure your Android device detects a controller name beginning with “FAVO” or “DUNEN”—these indicate a valid connection to your RCR controller. To fix the issue, the firmware needs to be reflashed:
Hold your Android device close to the right side panel of the bike—around the middle-bottom area for the strongest connection to the controller. Connect to your bike (confirming the FAVO/DUNEN connection), then restart the firmware installation process.
