RCR 80v Rear Wheel Removal Guide

RCR 80v Rear Wheel Removal Guide

This guide explains how to properly remove the rear wheel (hub motor assembly) from your RCR 80V for tire service, motor service, or swingarm maintenance.

Follow each step carefully. Take photos during disassembly to assist with reinstallation.

Before You Begin (Safety First)

  • Power the bike off

  • Place the bike on a stable stand

  • Ensure the rear wheel is lifted off the ground

  • Have all required tools ready

  • Work slowly and keep hardware organized

Tools You’ll Need

  • 10 mm socket (with extension)

  • 2.5 mm Allen wrench (included with bike)

  • 4 mm Allen

  • 5 mm Allen

  • 21 mm socket (inner axle bolt)

  • 24 mm socket (outer axle bolt)

  • Phillips head (if applicable)

  • Zip tie cutters

  • Tape (for reinstall wire routing)

The triple tool that came with the ONYX will remove everything except the axle bolts.

Rear Wheel Removal – Step-by-Step

Step 1: Disconnect the Battery

  1. Lift the battery cover.

  2. Pull it back to expose the connector.

  3. Pop out the battery connection.

You may hear a sound when disconnecting — this is normal and is the controller capacitors draining.

Step 2: Remove the Seat

  1. Use a 10 mm socket with extension.

  2. Remove the nuts located underneath the seat.

  3. Remove the seat and set aside.

Step 3: Remove the Side Panels

  1. Each panel is secured by five 2.5 mm bolts.

  2. Use the included Allen wrench or a 2.5 mm tool.

  3. Remove both panels.

This allows access to the controller and motor wiring.

Step 4: Disconnect the Phase Wires & Hall Sensor Cable

A) Remove Phase Wires

After removing the right-side panel:

  1. Locate the three phase wires (yellow, green, blue).

    • They come from a large orange cable.

    • They have heat shields.

  2. These are bolted to the underside of the controller.

  3. Remove the bolt (typically 10 mm head; easier than Phillips).

Important:

  • Only remove the yellow, green, and blue wires

  • Do NOT remove the red and black wires

B) Remove the Hall Sensor Cable

  1. Remove the left-side panel.

  2. Locate the multicolored wire covered in black shrink wrap.

  3. Follow it to the controller.

  4. Pull it down slightly to expose the push tab.

  5. Press the tab and disconnect.

Only disconnect the black-covered Hall sensor plug.
Do not remove the other nearby wires.

Step 5: Cut Zip Ties

  1. Locate zip ties securing:

    • Brake lines

    • Phase wires

  2. Cut all zip ties holding the motor wiring in place.

  3. Remove them completely.

Different bikes may have slightly different routing, but the phase cable will be secured through small hoops.

Step 6: Remove Motor Wiring from the Frame

  1. Carefully begin feeding the wires out of the frame.

  2. Be cautious with the small Hall sensor wires.

  3. Use a pull motion from below and a push motion from above.

  4. Remove heat shields if needed to help guide wires through.

Take your time — this step requires careful maneuvering.

Step 7: Remove Motor Fasteners & Axle Bolts

Remove the following hardware:

  • Bottom stay bolt: 4 mm

  • Outer axle bolt: 24 mm

  • Inner axle bolt: 21 mm

  • Final stay bolt: 5 mm

Remove all motor mounting hardware from the swingarm.

Step 8: Remove the Chain

  1. Once all fasteners are removed, slide the wheel slightly upward.

  2. Disengage the chain.

You may:

  • Remove the chain fully

  • Slide it forward and upward to keep it out of the way

Step 9: Slide the Rear Motor Out

  1. With everything disconnected, carefully slide the rear motor assembly out.

  2. Be mindful of any spacers or small components that may fall off.

Keep all hardware organized for reinstall.

Reinstallation Notes (Very Important)

Follow these carefully to avoid having to redo the job.

Motor Orientation

  • The notch must point outward and toward the back

Phase Wire Routing (80V Specific)

Unlike older RCR models:

  • The phase wire runs forward

  • It stays behind the swingarm

Critical Step – Kickstand Routing

Before securing anything:

  1. Put the kickstand down

  2. Run the phase wire in front of the kickstand

If you skip this step, you will need to disassemble again.

Wire Fishing Tip

When routing wires back into the frame:

  • Use tape to bundle the wires together

  • This makes pushing them through much easier

Final Checks Before Riding

  • Confirm phase wires are correctly connected (yellow, green, blue only)

  • Confirm Hall sensor is fully seated

  • Install new zip ties securely

  • Ensure chain is aligned properly

  • Torque axle bolts properly

  • Confirm brake line routing is clean and unobstructed
