This guide explains how to inspect and adjust the rear suspension preload on the RCR 80V for proper function and ride feel.
Before making any changes, inspect the rear suspension coils.
The rear suspension coil should NOT be rotatable by hand
If the coil spins freely, the preload is too loose and needs adjustment
A loose coil means the adjustment ring is not tightened enough.
At the loosest acceptable setting, there should be at least 9.5 mm of distance
This is measured between the top cap and the adjustment ring
This spacing ensures proper preload and safe suspension operation
This image is an example of suspension that is TOO LOOSE:
Clockwise = Tighten / Stiffen
Counter-clockwise = Loosen / Soften
(Reference is when viewing the adjustment ring normally from above.)
Use this setting if:
The rear feels too soft
You experience excessive sag
You want a firmer, more responsive ride
Locate the adjustment ring at the top of the rear suspension.
Rotate the adjustment ring clockwise.
This increases preload and stiffens the suspension.
Adjust both rear shocks evenly.
Use this setting if:
The ride feels too stiff
You want more comfort over bumps
Locate the adjustment ring at the top of the rear suspension.
Rotate the adjustment ring counter-clockwise.
This decreases preload and softens the suspension.
Adjust both rear shocks equally.
After adjusting:
Confirm the coil cannot be rotated by hand
Ensure both rear shocks are set the same
Verify the minimum 9.5 mm spacing is maintained at the loosest setting
| Adjustment | Direction | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Stiffen | Clockwise | Firmer ride |
| Loosen | Counter-clockwise | Softer ride |
